His goalscoring record when he's actually played a full season, or thereabouts, is MOORE than good enough.

Re: The Carroll situation.......
didnt andy cost us about 16-18m not 30? also comparing him to strikers in teams who have much better players around them is a bit harsh isnt it. you would surely expect the likes of dzeko so score a lot more. if andy played in those teams and they played to his strengths then he would score more.

Re: The Carroll situation.......
Yep I agree, desperately overpriced for sure. I just think the expectations on goalscoring have really reduced over the past decade or so as the game has changed/developed - people talk about 20 goal a season strikers as though it's the basic requirement, but those are very few and far between these days.

Alex.... that's championship as well...

Personally as I said I'd want more than 6 goals a season from a £30m £90,000 a week player ... maybe it's just me?

Re: The Carroll situation.......
>>> all in all he averages just over 6 goals per season

I'm not a huge fan of Carroll, but I do think 6 goals a season in the Prem is not that bad a record in the scheme of things. Especially if you're playing primarily as a lone striker, expected to feed on scraps and balls delivered at head height from distance. There aren't that many players who do better in a similar role.

Really making my point, I appreciate it.

As I said, has had decent scoring record in the past, before the big money move, so he has shown the ability to not just be a big lump over an extended period. To pretend like that is all he ever been is having a short memory. And people do a disservice to themselves as football supporters if they let themselves believe that.

Watch the goals he scored then to further understand.

He is looking better this season because, I believe 1) Teddy is here and is a perfect coach for what he needs to do, 2) He is not the one and only man who has just been given a monster deal because he is supposed to be the one and only man. 3) I think he sounds more mature.

Whether he can regain what he had in the long term or the injuries have really taken his footwork away, remains to be seen. It took Del Piero the better part of two years to somewhat regain what he had and that was one injury albeit a severe one.

Another interesting coincidence

In their first run of starts in the Premier League Sakho scored 7 and Carroll scored (wait for it ) 7, each in 11 games. So lets hold off on anointing one and condemning the other for now.

I think it's only fair to judge the boy once his 100% fit?

And Dzeko & Drogba have some of the best creative players in the world playing behind em, must make their job a little easier.

Re: The Carroll situation.......

A lot of people that are stating unequivocally what Andy Carroll is have quite short memories.

Just looked at Andy carroll's STATS over his career... he's had 2 half decent seasons... one in 09 when he was in the c'ship with NUFC and got 19 goals and the next season (10) in which he got 14 goals in the prem... apart from those two seasons his record for a £90k a week £30m+ centre forward is fucking shocking... for that amount of dosh the club is paying out I'd want more than human wrecking ball.... all in all he averages just over 6 goals per season since he started causing havoc....

Re: The Carroll situation.......
Carroll would be & asset to nearly all the clubs in the premier league & I include Chelsea & City in that, not saying he would be a regular starter for the big sides, but I'm sure their managers could utilise a Carroll type player in certain games & situations.

Like someone said earlier, his a unique style player in today's game, a rare breed. One thing for certain is defenders hate playing against him, he gives us good presence, got a good touch for a big fellow & I'm sure once his 100% match fit, sharp & confident, he'll score goals.

I loved the way we played with sakho & Valencia, pace, movement, hardworking off the ball, chasing down defenders which allowed us to squeeze the opposition. We caught a few teams out playing em at the beginning of the season & along with all the other new signings we looked a very tidy outfit.

However, as often is the case, teams will begin to suss us, show us a bit of respect, play a little deeper, tighter & get behind the ball. When we face opposition like that & the games are tight & we're in need of a goal, then it really is great having the big man to call upon.

It's been pointed out numerous times already, but we can now play 3/4 differnt ways with the forwards (players in general) we have at our disposal, we really are lucky to be in this position!

I'd say it's not a 'situation' at all as in the way fordys pointing it out, more of a luxury, one that the manager could well do with utilising to the best of his ability, mix the play up, rotate the forward 3 (4 if you include zarate as a forward) & keep the opposition guessing.

the manager has to set up for each game as he sees fit

someone mentioned playing sakho and enner vrs chelsea and I agree with them tbh

all 3 should play a major part, swap it about and make it fair

they're in the side to score and create goals, if any of them aren't then drop them

Er OM, there has been / is already at least 2 threads specifically about this player and this issue. It's boring and has been done to death, what else can you say about and how much discussion can you have about it, basically Carroll or Valencia aint it.
